Paintings by Mark Fairnington

Given that I usually post photos of my family life sessions, I thought it would be fun to share these paintings by the artist Mark Fairnington of his twin boys - a different medium to capture family life!

Incredibly life-like, they look like photos from a distance. Given the intimacy of both the painter's relationship to the boys, and the level of forensic examination required to record the detail in their faces, there is a weird aura of detachment when viewing the paintings...they are like scientific specimens... Perhaps it's because the backgrounds are blank and means you cannot place the boys in any location, context or 'family life setting'; instead it directs all of your attention to the painting technique.

Thoroughly recommend the exhibition if you are near Compton Verney art gallery.(www.comptonverney.org.uk)
